They require a sandy peat and leaf-mould, and the pots to be well drained, as too much water is as destructive to them as too little. They may be had in flower from May to August by making two sowings, one in September and the other in February, and keeping them in the greenhouse. November 25th, 2010 The Stargazer lily is a known oriental lily hybrid that has a distinct fragrant smell and striking red, white and pink petals. This cultivar was first introduced in late 1970's by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder from California. The flower is named so due to its position while blooming which is directly facing the sky. This lily variety is easy to grow since it doesn't have specific seasons for cultivation and once harvested could last from seven to fourteen days. Many flowers are selected not just for their beauty and fragrance but also for the special message associated with them. Flowers stood for certain emotions as far back as ancient Greece and Rome, but the popularity of saying things with flowers really bloomed in Victorian times.
