Funeral Flower Etiquette
When a loved one dies, it obviously is never an easy process to deal with. The pain truly cannot be simplified to words. Although nothing that anybody can say will be able to make the pain go away, it can actually go a long way into making the pain more understandable, or at least in finding others to cope with the pain.
You can help begin the process of healing by giving family members time to be together and mourn. This can be done in many ways, including expressing your condolences verbally and helping out with chores and errands so that things do not begin to get backed up.
A significant display of your feelings can be made right away if you send sympathy flowers. You should get these arrangements of funeral flowers from a florist you can rely on. It's nice to have lots of blossoms around after the death of a loved one, although that is certainly not the sole method of demonstrating caring and support to the relatives of the deceased.
In addition to Sympathy flowers, sympathy gift baskets are also a good idea. A gift basket may include a number of other items, such as chocolates, decorated diaries, and pictures of the loved ones in happy memories. These can go a long way in helping the family cope. Seeing the lost loved one in happy memories is a big step in turning the sorrow into happy thoughts.
Verbal gestures are at least as important in reaching out to a family as giving material gifts. Pay
special attention to the needs of the family and use words to convey your support. Offer to bring meals, help with childcare or transportation to and from their children's sports practices and help with household chores like laundry. Making an effort to help a family in need will comfort them during such a painful experience.
Whether it be funeral flowers, a gift basket you've made yourself, or a ride home from soccer practice, just remember that any sort of gesture, through which you show that you care, will do a great deal to help a family deal with a recent death.
