You have got to be kidding…you are nothing but a middleman…why not tell the public that you will charge them extra money as a “service” fee or for “delivery” and then not send that onto the REAL FLORIST. This is worse than ambulance chasing…very poor job of putting your face in the public’s eye! For those consumers who want to honor his memory and send a floral tribute, ask your Real Local Florist for help.

Dear Sher,
I got into the florist business to avoid negativity and nonsense, but alas, it seems to be everywhere.
Let’s get the FACTS straight before you come onto my board with slander, ok? I don’t suffer fools lightly.
Like ALL businesses in the world, there is always a “middleman”
Assuming that you are a “florist”, do you disclose to them that you recieve your flowers in bulk from the grower farms that we deal directly with, charge a “mark-up” for your “designing” skills and delivery, and then the flowers often sit around your flower shop for several days. lose vitality, and consequently don’t last as long as the types of flowers we send?
If so, good for you.
If you’re like most florists, probably not.
Now, as it seems you are woefully uninformed, perhaps you’d realize ANY service fees (when applicable) on this site are fully detailed BEFORE purchase.
We’re not trying to run circles around anyone nor dupe anyone.
Naturally, people are allowed to call any local flower shop and do their business there. The problem is, most people don’t have the time nor inclination to look up and call an out-of-state or out-of-city flower shop.
Even then, that local florist will have “hidden” service fees for their “arranging skills” and “delivery charges”.
In the event that people choose to call their hometown florist and have them sent thru a wire service, those extra fees are still included.
And lastly, if you’d had carefully READ the post, you’d see that the late Betty Ford has requested that donations be sent to the Ford Memorial Foundation instead of flowers. (You see the direct link to her page, yes?)
So what exactly are you all upset about?
Now for the slander, and I will call it slander for legal reasons…
Do you also storm into your local grocery store complaining about them being a “middleman” for Coca-Cola? You do realize you can buy soda for mere pennies per liter directly from the bottling plant, yes?
And yet many people choose to pay a $1.19 per evert 2 liters for “packaging”(nifty plastic containers and aluminum cans…be sure to recycle) and all the “middlemen” involved in that process.
Assuming you make some profit from your florist business and simply don’t give away your services for free (although I encourgage readers to act out of unselfishness), most Americans realize there are “middlemen” in every facet of business. It likely how they make a living themselves.
But I won’t tolerate your slander on this board. You’re free to agree or disagree but keep it polite and within the normal decorum that we’ve come to expect from any civilized human being (especially a florist).
